DAW is one of Germany's most sustainable companies
Ober-Ramstadt, 11th December 2017 (DAW) – As a finalist in the German Sustainability Award 2018 in the category "Medium-sized Companies", the building paints manufacturer DAW SE from the South Hessian town of Ober-Ramstadt with the well-known brands, Caparol and Alpina, prevailed against hundreds of competitors and convinced the expert jury. "As a driver of innovation, DAW shows in an exemplary manner how sustainability as an objective determines company activities and with its wide range of ecological products is also causing customers to change their thinking" – that was the jury's verdict. The award was presented on the 8th December before 1,200 invited guests in Düsseldorf.
Under the patronage of Federal President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German Sustainability Award sought for the tenth time creative solutions for tomorrow's challenges. Peak performance and pioneering in sustainability were rewarded in widely varied categories such as Economics, Research, Architecture and Communities. Representatives from companies, communities, politics and research participated in the anniversary event. Well-known laudatory speakers, including North Rhine-Westphalia's President Armin Laschet, presented the awards to the winners.
"Placement amongst the first three for the German Sustainability Award is a great delight for us as a family company and is also encouragement to continue in making positive contributions in efficiency, environmental protection and for the wellbeing of people," said Dr. Ralf Murjahn, CEO of DAW.
"Our success is also demonstrated by an ever-increasing proportion of innovative products and the use of renewable raw materials," explained DAW Director Dr. Christoph Hahner who is responsible for Innovation, Research & Development. For example, with its professional brand Caparol and with Alpina, the brand for DIY customers, DAW has launched product lines on the paints market which are specially formulated for sustainability.
DAW regards climate protection as a sustainability challenge. This is because, although the building and real estate industry is responsible for over one third of the worldwide CO2 emissions and therefore urgently needs more energy efficient building design, the market for thermal insulation has been reducing in recent years. "Here, we see a big opportunity of countering these effects and to actively push on with the topics of "Sustainable Building" and "Climate Protection" as a pioneer in the field of sustainable coatings. Our commitment has been recognised," said Bettina Klump-Bickert delighted, Head of Sustainability Management at DAW.
Climate protection is also an important topic within the company. For example, DAW manufacturing at its German locations is 100 percent climatically neutral and the company seeks continuous reductions in the emissions within the scope of its Integrated Management System. The introduction of building control, heat recovery and the consistent use of LEDs led to an 18-percent energy saving within four years. Socially, DAW is committed to its employees in the most varied ways, it employs disabled people and rewards the performance of the painting trade with its own advancement award.
Since its foundation in 1895, DAW has been regarded as an innovative supplier of environmentally friendly products and services that is very conscious of health aspects. The company wants to expand its contribution towards sustainable economic activities which are also compatible for the future. In terms of sustainability, DAW has set itself the target of taking up a forerunner role in its industrial field.
